You think a narcissist is getting ahead? No, they’re merely better at keeping it out of sight than most can manage. Beneath the designer clothing, the nervous giggles, and the vacuous seeking of admiration, there exists a quiet, unspoken kind of misery that devours them alive each day. It’s not the kind that reduces them to tears; it’s the kind that sucks the life from their soul. They can’t sleep. They can’t love. They can’t help but compare themselves to you and others. And no matter what they do, it will never be sufficient.

You think they’re self-assured and put together? No, you need to take a closer look.

Number 1: Jealousy Louder Than Joy

Their anger is always greater than their happiness. You can give a narcissist everything money, status, admiration, attractiveness, and they will never be able to unwind and enjoy peace. No, they might be making $100,000 or a million dollars a month, and still, if someone whom they dislike in private receives a $100 bonus, it will ruin their peace. It doesn’t matter how large they seem on the outside. In here, they’re assailed by the little victories of others.

They don’t notice what they possess; they see what someone else just acquired. And that is what makes their existence unbearable and miserable. God can provide them a hundred times more, but the moment a person they dislike receives something small, it feels like robbery. They don’t know how to rejoice. They do not know how to relax. They are stuck in a whirlpool of constant comparison. And you understand that comparison is slowly killing them on the inside.

They’re not pursuing dreams; they are running from jealousy constantly. That is the reason why even the accomplishments of their very own relatives are betrayals to them. When their brother gets married, when their cousin purchases a car, when you are lauded in the company office meeting, it ruins their week. They are bitter, sour, and restless. So, however blessed they may appear, they are living in a state of inner poverty. They are starving,g starving for what? For peace, they cannot achieve because they are imprisoned by envy, and that destroys them.
