Number 5: Extravagant religious traditions.
Narcissists love to arm themselves with spirituality and religion to shame and control others, don’t they? Regardless of their specific religion or spiritual practice, they perform showy, theatrical public rituals, particularly in the morning, solely for exhibition and display purposes, and not out of actual devotion. My father practiced elaborate, flamboyant religious rituals daily, publicly reciting aloud prayers and scriptures. He did not do these things out of true spiritual connection.
Rather, they were used as public spectacles to point out our perceived spiritual deficits. Suffering mentally and emotionally because of his abuse, my relationship with religion diminished severely. He never chose to respond with empathy or sympathy because he’s a narcissist. Rather, he used his inflated rituals to underscore my perceived moral weaknesses, calling me sinful, separated from God, and spiritually inadequate.
This insidious control caused my deep internal conflict and resulted in deep emotional and spiritual scarring within myself. His goal was never the guidance and support of my spirit, but spiritual domination, designed to make me morally inferior and always guilty.
Overall, I have to say, mornings are naturally sacred, being the initial moments that create the rest of our day. Narcissists seek this valuable time out, particularly to build maximum control in the shortest time. They desire chaos. They desire you to experience emotional hurt. You need to be able to see these manipulative patterns if you wish to take back your mornings and, as a whole, your life.
In other words, it’s about being awakened first, and do you know what the second step is? It is freeing yourself from everything and healing yourself from all this craziness.
