If your narcissistic boyfriend or girlfriend has access to your phones or devices, they can use those devices to monitor your whereabouts and activities. That is particularly true if they are concerned about cheating or would like to have the assurance that you are not seeing another person behind their back. But with narcissists, it is also an exercise of control needs. They need to know where you are every minute, and they will even turn it against you.
Narcissists will even turn it around to regulate your actions. For instance, if they do not wish you to be around some individuals, they would call or message you when you are with someone else in order to remind you that they can witness what is going on, and this is a threat and intimidation against you.
The action of their own makes you wrong for being with your friend or member of family. Narcissists will not be concerned about your emotions, even if you are crying, since maybe that is their strategy to begin with: to make you feel useless without them.
Number 5: Internet Searches
Narcissists will search the internet for facts regarding their spouse, such as social media and past relationships. This may be done in order to keep something from them, such as a past lover or child, or so they may obtain proof that you are cheating on them. How narcissists will investigate the internet for facts regarding their spouse is one of the ways that they manipulate and control.
They can even do this in such a way that they can get the information that will enable them to gain an advantage over people when arguing. For instance, narcissists can learn how much you dislike a certain activity or food, and then use it against you later. Narcissists also seek information about you on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
They can read your posts or check your profile picture to get to know you better, and that too might be another manipulation and control indication. Narcissists will also usually use that as a means of them already knowing this about you.
