Number 8: I need to be able to trust you.
One of the most commonly cited reasons for a relationship to fizzle out is when trust and communication aren’t there. When one or both members of the relationship aren’t willing to lay their cards on the table and be truthful with one another, it’s nearly impossible to come to an understanding. If you feel like you are stuck in a relationship with a person who isn’t being truthful with you, then stating that in the text is essential.
Something along the lines of, “This isn’t working because you won’t tell me the truth,” or, “I need a partner that I can trust to tell me how they’re feeling,” is a great way to get your point across without making it seem like you are attacking them. Since the person in this situation struggles to tell the truth, you may not get the answer you were looking for here and they may attempt to deflect, but you’re doing all you can by being honest.
Number 7: You didn’t respect my personal space.
In relationships, too much of anything can become tiring fast. It can be pretty difficult to express sometimes, but space and time apart from one another is a good thing and can strengthen your relationship in a big way.
If you have tried to get space from your partner but they continued to follow you around, or worse, became possessive, then there are some ways you can go about addressing that. Texting your partner something like, “You didn’t respect my boundaries and that was important to me,” will make it clear that this was a big deal and it is enough to break things off.
In situations like this, the other person may try to gaslight you into believing you are overreacting, but a person refusing to listen to you and prioritizing their desires over your own is a red flag and one you don’t have to tolerate. This is also a good text to send to a narcissist since this personality type also tends to overstep boundaries and make you feel like you have no room to breathe.
