Secret cameras and microphones to monitor you without you even noticing. Another one of the most frightening discoveries survivors make is that the narcissist spied on them, not figuratively, but literally. Corner shelf secret cameras, secret microphones hidden behind shelves, smoke detectors, air vents, equipment you never suspected could capture your conversations were secretly capturing your private conversations, your vulnerable moments, even your breakdown.
But why in the world would they do that? Because narcissists are control freaks. Spying = control. They do not trust any human being, not even the ones they claim to love. They’re not recording to protect you of course, not. They might even let you know that they’re recording so they have something to manipulate, play back to gaslight you, or to watch you like a lab experiment.
They will sometimes even act as if they know something they only guessed when, in fact, they taped you without your knowledge. Think they’re psychic? No, they concealed a spy cam in the bookshelf. It is all about control. It is all about always being one step ahead, and it is all about having the power to shame, embarrass, or blackmail you if ever you attempt to leave.
