Do not remember what you returned to me; I still have it all. I listened to it, saw it occur, and you realized that it was never intimacy; it was captivity. You believed you were making a memory with them; they were building a case. They did not just break your heart; they disassemble pieces of you and promise to scatter them out there for everyone to see if you ever try to escape.

Number 5: The Secret Burner Phone

A scheming, cheating, texting, and betrayal secret burner phone. Most survivors realize too late that the narcissist possessed a secondary phone, a small, cracked, old phone stashed in the glove compartment, under the car seat, or in a drawer you were forbidden to ever enter. And when they finally venture out of the house to go shopping in the market or stroll long outside, they’re monitoring not their email, not work, not even the news, but DMs, hidden numbers.

It is your hidden life that you don’t know. That burner phone is where they get to be themselves, the one that they hid from you, the one who is shameless flirting, the one who says they are single when they are in bed with you at night. The phone you never saw because the narcissist had conditioned you not to ask. They’ll give you such lines as, “Don’t touch my things,” or “Why are you so insecure? “every time you are about to discover it.

They will arrest you and accuse you of not trusting them, but having a whole double life inches from your nose. And the reason that they do have it is not solely for affairs; it is for exit strategies, in case you ever try to take them down and expose them, in case they have to go underground and re-establish themselves with some other individual.”. That phone is the narcissist’s Plan B, and surprise, surprise. You were never part of it.
