Trick Number 3: Keeping You on the Edge
See, a narcissist can’t risk having you completely mentally and physically exhausted because he/she knows you will probably leave them in such a case. However, he/she wants to make sure that you stay just as weak to keep control over you.
That’s when they throw some kindness your way. Just when you’re on your knees, ready to break off, they suddenly turn sweet again. At the lowest of your points, they make you take a breath of fresh air.
Then, right after you get over everything and leave, they pretend to be a victim so that you feel guilty. And guess what? There you are, still being in love with them despite yourself.

But let me tell you, this happens slowly and subtly. They constantly compare you with other people. They remind you that other people appreciate them more, and suddenly, you’re in the middle of this struggle to win back someone.
See, that is what they wanted in the first place. They wanted you to stay and compete with everyone else. Because here is what you need to understand: Until you stop fighting and leave the game, you can never break free.
That is what you must stop doing if you want to save yourself from going through torture that you don’t deserve to endure.
